26 August 24 - How to pack your bouncy castle away at the end of Summer

How to pack away your bouncy castle at the end of Summer

We are now approaching the end of August, and households across the UK will be preparing for the end of the school summer holidays. Uniforms and new shoes bought for the academic year, folding garden chairs stacked back in the shed ready for May 2025.

The next step is to prepare the bouncy castle you bought this summer to be packed away, and stored safely, ready for next summer.

It's a relatively simple process but not following these steps can result in a nasty surprise when you next get your bouncy castle out of storage!

Bouncy castles are made from PVC, and high quality bouncy castles such as our own feature anti fungal properties which will help to fight off the build up of mold and mildew, however, it's very difficult to completely stop mold and mildew forming on inflatables when not in use for long periods of time. The best way to ensure that your bouncy castle is kept clean and free from mold and mildew is to ensure that it's packed away when completely dry - bone dry!

To do this, choose a hot and sunny day to inflate your bouncy castle, clean with a gentle cleaning product such as dish soap and water and allow your inflatable to dry out completely. We would advise against using a strong bleach product as this can in some cases rot and damage the stitching on the inflatable unit.

Besides visually checking over the inflatable, you can usually tell if an inflatable is completely dry by the seams. A wet inflatable will generally show a 'bubbling' of water through the stitching seams. You can also feel the inflatable at the seams to check that the inflatable has dried completely. As you are planning on storing the inflatable at this time, we would advise against using a pressure washer or dumping lots of water on the inflatable, you want to use as little water as possible on the inflatable at this stage.

Don't be tempted to pack your inflatable away when slightly damp. This can sometimes be much worse than packing an inflatable away when soaking wet. When storing your inflatable, ensure that you are storing your equipment in a clean and dry space with good ventilation in and around the equipment, best to lift the equipment slightly from the floor. A wooden pallet is a great tool to place your bouncy castle on top of.
